Good story.
I have a question. Has any overzealous Caesar, Tsar, or Sultan commissioned an "iconographic style" painting of himself?
Or have any of the above ever been "iconized" as a propaganda tool?

I copied the link and opened a new tab and saw the "icon" but I couldn't make it work in the forum display window.
Was there a reprisal for the "icon?" Was is "written" before or after his death?

So was the image in question created before or after his demise? __________________________________________________________________
Back to the original story, Putin ain't no Tsar. I read the article, it's all bark and no bite.

Probably while he was alive, although no one is sure. No, Vladimir is not a Tsar. He is not bad for a president though, and would be a better choice than any of the jokers campaigning now!

From what I have read of Ivan The Terrible I believe if he wished an icon painted of himself he would very well have made someone become willing to write an icon of him.

Returning to the original point of the thread (such a novel idea, I know) ...
May God grant many years to the iconographer, Vladimir Grigorenko, who declined to dishonor his gift from God by using it in a manner never intended, despite the obvious commercial advantage that would have accrued to him.
"One day all our ethnic traits ... will have disappeared. Time itself is seeing to this. And so we can not think of our communities as ethnic parishes, ... unless we wish to assure the death of our community."
