Heath Ledger was found dead at 3:30pm today in his apartment in NYC from apparent drug overdose.

May God have mercy on his soul...and those of his family and friends.

That is eerie - I was thinking about him earlier today. Seeing a DVD copy of a movie he was in on sale I thought "He was a good actor, I wonder why he hasn't been in a movie lately".

I thought he was great in "The Patriot". He certainly had great potential. But I always felt a large measure of disappointment that he did Brokeback Mountain, which I have refused to see.

I forgot he did that one. I was thinking of "The Patriot" and "10 Things I Hate About You" Which is actually a clever take on "The Taming of the Shrew"... And smarter than most teen-angst fare.

And I just now read he was in the next Batman movie as The Joker.

I guess he did do more films than I was thinking of. I live under a rock.

Like A Simple Sinner said, he's The Joker in the upcoming Batman movie. Apparently to get into the role 100%, he locked himself in a hotel room for something like two months and would socialize with others as little as possible so as to drive himself into "crazy mode" to play his part more convincingly.

Perhaps that had something to do with his apparent overdose/suicide? One can only guess.

Oh my gosh! I can't believe this! I am literally very upset about this. He was a great actor, in my opinion. I need to go watch a Knight's Tale.

Truly sad. May Christ have mercy on his soul and give comfort to his family.

He did a fine job in The Patriot, but I was disappointed that he would appear in such a shameful film as Broke Back Mountain.

It may nopt have been suicide, all we know for now is that it was an overdose, so may have been "Recreational".

May his soul rest in peace, and may God have mercy on his soul.

From what I have heard he was really having problems sleeping because of his role in the upcoming Batman movie. He plays the Joker but this is a darker version and I believe he described him as "demonic" in nature. He said he was only sleeping about 2 hours a night. It is suspected that Ledger was taking Ambien but that wasn't really helping so it is possible that it was mixed with over the counter sleeping pills. Personally, I don't feel that it was an intentional suicide but Ledger has been one of the more reserved actors to come out of Hollywood in the past years and may have been suffering in silence. I hope things will come to light in time and that he rests in peace. Sometimes I really despise how much the media invades the privacy of even the dead.
