Does anyone have any information about/experience with this particular community?: http://www.melkite.org/CloisterIcons.htm

I've never heard of it before, but received the link through a vocations website. They're apparently associated with the Melkites (who, as far as I knew, didn't have any monastic communities in the United States).

Also, I'm confused about the relationship between Our Lady of Solitude Cloister and Holy Annunciation Monastic Community. Is one the monastery and the other the retreat center?

God bless,

Chris

The Melkites also have St Basil's Monastery in Methuen, MA - of the Basilian Salvatorian Order

There aren't presently any active candidates as far as I'm aware (I'll try and confirm that, haven't spoken to anyone there in a while). It's too bad, as St Basil's served our Church for many years - educating both monastic and secular clergy, as well as clergy of some of the other Churches (at least 2 Bishops of other Churches sui iuris were students there).

In recent times, our clergy candidates have been doing their coursework using a combination of seminary facilities - none of them our own.

There has been, however, an effort to restore the concept of a monastic community, an effort having some success. (There were a few years there in which the numbers of monks in residence had shrunk alarmingly, the vast majority being committed to pastoral work.)

Many years,

Neil
