There was a little conversation today about money donations. While these are tax-deductible and legally all tax documents must be sent out no later then the last day in January, does the church have a legal responsibly to distribute a form stating the amount given?

More over, does your parish provide its charitable donors a list of money given for the year for the tax write off or do they place the responsibility on those who are giving the money to keep track?

The requirement by 'tax law' now, is no monies can be deducted unless it is shown in a statement by the church it is donated to. They changed it a few years back. Just another way the IRS is tring to get more or our money and costing the church more money to keep up with their rules.

And, yes, our church sends out a yearly statement by the end of Jan. for the donations from the previous year.

IRS Charitable Deductions [irs.gov] rules have been updated. The rules apply equally to churches or other qualified charitable organizations.
