I'm wondering if anyone can help with this--our parish has some Spanish-speaking neighbors who are regularly attending the DL. If there is anyone reading this whose parish celebrates the DL in Spanish or bi-lingually and has a booklet prepared with the Spanish DL-Pittsburgh revisions, or knows where something like this can be obtained, can you please PM me?

I suggest a letter to Santa Maria in Cosmedin, Rome, requesting copies of their Greek-English and Greek-Spanish Divine Liturgy booklets. [I also suggest putting something in the envelope besides the letter; booklets and postage do not come free!] With old-fashioned cut and paste, and the aid of a Bible, you can approximate a Spanish-English Divine Liturgy booklet in whatever usage you like.

Saint John the Baptist Melkite Greek Catholic Church in Northlake, Illinois has a Spanish Divine Liturgy every weekend. While the Melkite DL is different from the Ruthenian DL, perhaps contacting them to see what resources they use for their Spanish DL might be helpful. Yes, I do remember reading in past issues of Sophia magazine about their celebrations for the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

I want to say that I've read that the cathedral in Van Nuys offers a Spanish Divine Liturgy.

Last thing I heard, the Eparchy of Van Nuys doesn't have an official translation of the Divine Liturgy in Spanish.

A few years ago, some priests and eparchial officers expressed interest in my translation, but if they do use it, it is only as a catechetical resource and not for actual celebration.

I have been an advocate of exploring having Spanish missions for some time. Here where I am, thousands of Spanish speaking Catholics are simply NOT going to Church... until someone from Iglesia di Dios approaches them about accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

The tricky proposition is eventual community integration.

Personally, I am not sure a Spanish Divine Liturgy is the right long-term solution.

It would be better if your Church offered some free or very low cost English classes and then you can welcome your Spanish-and-English-speaking brethren to the celebration of the mysteries in English.

Of course, the long-term solution I propose does not exclude the possibility of having a Divine Liturgy in Spanish for the recently-arrived.

I am looking for copies of the DL/RDL to have in the pews for those who only speak and understand Spanish so they can follow along. Certain prayers are taken in Spanish by the priest each Sunday, but that is not enough for them to grasp the essence of the Liturgy and they are not learning anything about it. Unfortunately we are not in a position to offer ESL classes and while the priest can read Spanish, his conversational use of the language is not too advanced as of yet.

ESL classes are an excellent idea, I agree.

The transition from "ethnic group A" to "ethnic group B" isn't one I would get excited about... But providing a place for people to pray and recieve the mysteries is more my focus.
