Dear Friends,

As part of our Lenten discipline Fr. Abbot has asked us monks to dispossess ourselves of some of the accumulated things we have collected in our cells.

So I thought rather than lug a whole collection of books to the local Goodwill, I decided to offer them to those who might be interested in some texts of Orthodox spirituality/theology.

To give you an idea of what I have:

Saints' writings - John Chrysostom, John of Damascus, Isaac the Syrian, Tikhon of Zadonsk, John Climacus, Romanos the Melodist, Seraphim of Sarov

Some monastic authors such as Elder Joseph, Mother Raphaela, Archimandrite Seraphim, Father Michael, Father Ephraim, Abbess Thaisia

Theological works by: Schmemann, Meyendorff, Afonsky, Archbishop Paul, Clement, Evdokimov

Popular works - Mathewes-Green, John Oliver, Markides

Also... one Orthodox Study Bible (N.T.) two books of selections from the Philokalia, Byz-Ruthenian Directory [1999], and various pamphlets esp. a series put out by Byzantine Seminary Press

Now I am willing to ship these materials to you, but I would like to send out as much as possible to one place so I [or my Abbey really] won't be spending a fortune on postage.

So please send me a PM if you're interested in any of these books.

Thank you a may you have a blessed Lent journey,

Br. Elias OSB

WOW!

I didn't expect to get so many replies to my offer so soon.

Now it seems I need to make like King Solomon and decide how to divide the "spoils" among so many worthy applicants.

I think I'll send materials to those who responded the earliest [even one said he'd take the lot - it's better to share the wealth]. Why do I feel like a radio DJ ? - 1st three callers only... laugh

I'll confirm if you are one of the lucky ones by PM.

For all those others who answered, sorry I don't have more to give. Prayers that you have a fruitful and Spirit-filled Lent as we look toward the joy of Holy Pascha!

PEACE

Brother Elias

Well, I didn't respond because I figured you would get plenty of requests. biggrin Now you know how to help the other brothers clean off their shelves too.

God bless you for your generosity and love!
