What are you crazies all talking about?

On the revised Roman Calendar today is not the feast of St. Valentine!

It is in fact, the feast of Ss. Cyril & Methodius! On the BCC calendar it is the feast of the deat of St. Cyril, Apostle to the Slaves.

So if we are to be correct in our discussions about what to do for the day here among Catholics - Greek & Latin, St. V has little to do with it!

A ComBox Hero over at the blog "Shrine of the Holy Whapping" put it well:

Quote
Geez, don't you know? Today is a traditional day for romance. Below are a couple of blurbs that can be put in cards for the occasion:

For her:

"Your eyes are so pretty and your voice so melodious,
I love you my darling, will you be my Methodius?"

For him:

"You are so strong, so handsome, so virile;
I love you my darling, will you be my Cyril?"

Happy Feast Day!

So to all you lady types out there, be my Methodius!

And to all you manly man types, may you be a truly virile Cyril!

May your sweetheart not read what you said or she may also apply one of these to you like my dear sweetie does to me when I get out of line, (mind you I found one in the color of the day): [Linked Image]

The closet thing I have to a sweetie on this the venerable feast of the Equal to the Apostles Ss. Cyril & Methodius are my three Shiba Inus, Mr. Dog, Stevie & Frank.

In spite of what I wrote it is pretty much a given that I will not be sleeping alone tonight. Actually, as they jump up and claim places on the bed well before I go to sleep, it is a nightly struggle to find some real estate for myself!

Its a good life - they are always happy to see me, never complain about my socks not making it into the hamper, and $1 worth of kibble will smooth over any situation which may have engendered their resentment.

The life of a celibate dog owner really ain't bad!

Alice may confirm this for you... But when I was in high school (17/18) I found that making a 45 min (one way) trip up to Detroit's Greek Town (tiny half a street!) to the Astoria Bakery for some Baklava was (in days when gas was under $1 per gallon!) a preciously cheap way to smooth over the much earned discontent of my mother when I had (once again) proven myself an imbecile.

Reparations need not be costly, they need only be heart-felt and well planned!

Dear Simple,

I LOVE your beautiful dogs. Thanks for sharing that photo of them!!

Today is a day to celebrate all creatures that we love--and dogs give so much love daily--(only, we can't share chocolates with them as it is toxic for them--especially dark chocolate).

As do small children give much love--they love to bring home their little valentines from school, and the excitement on their faces when you see the beautiful valentines they have made for you as their mother, exude love...

Alice

P.S. So, your mom likes baklava?!?
( I once had a dog--a German Shephard mix, that ADORED baklava!! LOL)

My advice is to make sure that a married man ALWAYS look for a card in the same section he would if he were courting. All those "wife" cards try to be so cute--"to the wife," "to the old ball and chain," etc. I always look in the section that says "to the woman I love" or "my life has never been the same since I met you" or something equally romantic that a man courting a woman would buy. And my wife never buys thsoe "husband cards" that are equally a back-handed complement that makes one wonder if there is something missing or somehow the relationship is derailed. wink

Dear Simple Sinner,

With my black Labrador companion Rosco, there is nothing that a Milk-Bone or a rawhide chew won't resolve. He lives for them. I also have to agree, he is loving and adoring and never complains. Just I have to fight to have my own bed every now and then.

In IC XC,
Father Anthony+
