For those men that are married, soon to be married, or have a special lady in their lives, do not forget that today is Valentine's Day. If you do forget, you may experience a foretaste of the pangs of hell not only for today, but for a long time to come! biggrin

Strange you should post that smile

I had to go out earlier today [ about 10.30 my time] and both Tesco and ASDA [ Walmart ] seemed to be filled with MEN - 'cos their wee brain cells had apparently not functioned this morning early enough.

I suspect that here there's going to be lots of slightly irate ladies telling their menfolk off tonight for forgetting the flowers etc etc.

The checkout tellers were having a great time and barely repressing giggles.

We don't celebrate Valentine's day. Rachel thinks it more romantic if I give her flowers when she doesn't expect it, especially if it's not just once a year.

Then today might be the day to give her some, since she won't be expecting them. wink Also don't forget the chocolates (maybe more for you than her biggrin ) !

Indeed, man made holidays to show love are kind of shallow...love in a good marriage is shown in the small everyday things that show that one cares for the other...

Ofcourse having said that, I used to get angry when these days were forgotten or not made special enough, etc., etc...but God has shown me, through many years of marriage, that all that money can buy, small or large, doesn't matter..you cannot 'buy' a homemade dinner on the table after a hard day's work, taking care of children so the other can have a day off, letting the other sleep late because they had a difficult night's sleep, going to church services and monasteries together...that to me, after twenty-seven years of marriage are the moments I cherish the most...Praise be to God!

Alice

P.S. Secret Squirrel: that is a beautiful heart, and my husband really laughed when I shared your post with him...thank you for the wishes--we ladies of the forum love you too! (I always did like squirrels, and some of my most pleasant moments are watching them play and jump from branch to branch in the trees outside my kitchen window as I am washing dishes)...Happy Saint Valentine's Day!! smile

All this is very true

BUT

It's still fun seeing lots of very guilty looking men wondering what to do so they don't look stupid walking out with these enormous bouquets of flowers 'cos they think their wives will kill them if they go home empty handed. biggrin biggrin biggrin

I'm just looking at Secret Squirrel's punctuation < hmmm > < thinking>

Now I wonder did he mean to write

<<The Mrs got hers, before the Secret Squirrel got his , over the head via cast iron skillet>>

or did he mean

<<The Mrs got hers, before the Secret Squirrel got his over the head via cast iron skillet >>

There is a very very subtle difference here - me worried as to safety of the Secret Squirrels

The Mrs has a way off accentuating her displeasure. The cast iron skillet was a wedding gift from her mother. crazy

I protect myself from this scourge by having a skillet so large Rachel can't swing it. Lodge Cast Iron has some of the heaviest skillets. You may need a 15" skillet, but their 12" is fine for my use. smile

I kind of knew I was in trouble when I saw my picture was engraved on the back side of the skillet. crazy
