Would it be hijacking if we go from shoulders to fingers? The ancient icons show Christ blessing with index and middle finger extended and others curled into the palm crossed by the thumb. I believe this was the common hand gesture universally, and for us too until the Helenization of Nikon, Latinization of Peter I and Reformation of Catharine II.
We are being told by our clergy every Sunday Pope B 16 has asked us to return to our roots. Should we be using this old way of signing ourselves with our fingers? Or is there another time slot they want to retreat to when only the clergy were educated?
