No, FOX News was pretty negative the times it mentioned Ron Paul in it's editorials.

Fox News is not a political party. The GOP did not make an effort to crush Ron Paul, they gave him little to no attention. But they didn't need to give him much attention.

If he was able to gain popular support, perhaps the GOP would have made an effort to suppress him.

The GOP did ignore him; the media avoided him. I remember watching one of the debates on ABC and afterward George Stephanopoulos began mentioning him favorably and all of a sudden Charles Gibson cut him off and changed the subject...

The problem I am having is that it is not really clear to me who is the lesser of evils. I think the system and culture are fundamentally broken so to vote for anyone means to compromise on at least one crucial issue. I am not convinced that the Republican party is against abortion enough to make any real change. And I think that while Obama is prochoice, I don't think it is the issue that defines him. I don't think it is realistic to hope that Roe v. Wade will be overturned and abortion will be outlawed. I think that legal abortion is here to stay, unfortunately. In the meantime, there are other pressing issues that we can do something about and we have to recognize the fact that some of our "prolife" leaders endorse the deliberate use of torture and also support economic policies that give the insurance companies and corporations an overwhelming advantage over working people.

Here, here! Well said. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops said the same thing:

Terry,

There is a time-honored way of protecting the status quo:
1.) Ignore the disruptive idea or person for as long as
possible; when that no longer works,
2.) Ridicule the disruptive idea or person for as long as
possible; when that no longer works,
3.) Try to discredit the disruptive idea or person for as
long as possible; when that no longer works,
4.) Openly confront the disruptive idea or person for as
long as possible; when that no longer works,
5.) Jump on the bandwagon--at this point your political
career is in jeopardy (and it helps if you can make
it look like this was your position all along)!

This may seem amusing, but it really is the way politics is played--and not only in democracies.

Deacon Richard,

That's fairly accurate. Ron Paul stayed at #1 on that list because he was not threatening the favored candidate.

It's a shame all of the current candidates for President are Senators. Senators have historically had trouble transitioning from a position of corporate leadership in the Senate to a position of authority as Commander-in-Chief.
