What are the alleluia verses for this service in the Melkite tradition? I have checked numerous books and they only say "alleluia" presumably because they are sung by a cantor or choir but I would like to know what they are anyway. Thanks.

Paul-

Which service are you referring to?

According to Martha Liles' website [mliles.com], it refers to the Burial of Christ.

The Jerusalem Matins service served on Holy Saturday morning or in some parishes the night before.

Paul,

I'm no liturgical expert, but I can't find any "nonstandard" alleluias in my service books for Holy Saturday Orthros, nor do I recall such a thing. The only thing I find are the regular three alleluias between the hexapsalms and before the Gospel.

Do you have some more specifics as to where in the service it is? or maybe you're thinking of a different service?

God Bless,

Markos

Paul,

do you mean the Alleluia verses that normally supplant "The Lord is God" (i.e, after the Litany of Peace after the hexapsalmos) during Lent?

This replacement does not occur in the Saturday Orthros of Holy Week, which is celebrated on the evening of Good Friday. (This celebration also has the nickname of "Funeral of Christ", which is in Arabic "junnaaz ul-masiiH".)

We sing "The Lord is God" in tone 2 for Saturday Orthros of Holy Week.

Thus the only Alleluia verses will be those at the end of three-psalm section within the hexapsalmos.

The Alleluia verses sung between the Epistle and the Gospel in the Orthros of Saturday of Holy Week (junnaaz ul-masiiH) are as follows.

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
Let God arise and his enemies will scatter; and those who hate him will flee before him.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
As smoke vanishes, so let them vanish and melt away as wax before the fire.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
So do sinners perish at the presence of God; but let the just exult with joy before Him.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
