I can understand your friend. We have a commercial Bunn in the kitches grin and yes it has two pots. In my defence there are four adult coffee drinker in the house. But an IV drip would be nice at times laugh. Is coffee and/or tea without cream and sugar a no no. My addiction would like to know. Of course this would be a good time to go cold turkey only no one will be able to live with me then.

Tea or coffee with sugar is fine. Cream is a no-no for Easterners. I don't know about Coffee Mate or something like that.

Well guys it is possible to give up anything if you put your mind to it. I give up all caffeine for Lent and just sip plain hot water if I need something hot in the morning. I didn't do it at first voluntarily: it was part of a diet imposed on me by my physician some years ago--before he discovered formaldehyde exposure as the culprit.

BTW, after my recent experience, my cardiologist has forbidden me to have any coffee, tea, or chocolate--with or without caffeine--until May 1st. So I guess Great Lent will last a bit longer for me this year. grin

But let's stay on topic. The topic is the deep meaning of fasting--what the point of all the dietary restrictions are doing or supposed to lead us to be and understand.

BOB

What a beautiful prayer! And it speaks simply of the true meaning of fasting. It is from Orthros of Saturday morning of the fourth week of the Great & Holy Fast.

This is the last troparion of the Seventh Ode from this morning: "We entreat you, O Virgin, who alone are full of love, cleasne us from our sinfulness. Pray fervently to Christ, for by nature He is love, that we who sing His praises may complete the time of abstinence performing acts of love."

It seems a lovely and simple way to show the real meaning of fasting.
