A little girl just over a year old was killed in front of our church last night just after Vespers ended. An apparently drunk driver jumped the curb knocking down two trees, one fell on the toddler who died from her injuries. It was a sad day at church.

The unfortunate incident inspired a very moving sermon from Father. He also commemorated her in a litany and during the Great Entrance. There is a growing memorial of stuffed animals and such in front of the church.

Truly a sad day.

Prayers for the family of the little girl and all who knew her, and may her memory be eternal.

Prayers also for the driver, that this tragedy may not drive him to despair but to a life of repentance!

My prayers for the little girl [name] and her family.

Through the prayers of St. Seraphim, St. John of Kronstadt, and the Most Pure Theotokos, may the drunk driver [name] be led to repentance and saved.

Does anyone know the url where one can find the Akathist hymn to the Theotokos for alcoholics? I purchased a copy, but lost it.

God open the eyes of this little angel in his Kingdom and rest her innocent soul. Have mercy, God, have much mercy upon this child, her family, and have mercy on that driver.

May her memory be eternal! God be with the parents, the driver, the witnesses and the parish. May there be peace and healing for all involved, and repentance for the intoxicated driver.

God bless,

This was a terrible occurrence

My prayers for the little one - though I'm sure that the Father has taken this innocent one to Himself.

My prayers for her grieving family and friends.

My prayers also for the driver responsible for this terrible deed - may this be a wake up call for him as he will have to live with his responsibility for his action for the rest of his life.

The amount of memorial stuffed animals that have been placed in the church gates is phenomenal! The local paper today had a story with a picture of Father blessing the site.

Lord of Powers be with us, for in times of distress we have no other helper but you. God of Powers have mercy on all.
