I received this email from one of the Srs. of St. Basil:

"I just got a phone call that Deacon Michael Levy just passed away."

May God grant rest to the soul of his servant Michael and may his memory be eternal.

May the Holy Protomartyr and Deacon Stephen receive his brother and lead him to the Holy Table, that he might fulfill his office unto eternity. Lord, give rest to Thy servant, the Deacon Michael, in a place of light and love and may his memory be eternal.

Prayers for the Diaconessa, their children, all his family, and his spiritual family. May they be comforted in the thought of being reunited with their loved one after this earthly life.

I had Deacon Michael for a retreat master one year during my diaconal training.

The one thing I remember best from that retreat was when he told his own story of how, shortly after his ordination as a deacon, his employer suddenly and quite arbitrarily decided to terminate him. After recovering from the shock and dismay of this decision, ideas began coming to him of how he could start his own business. Not only was he successful in doing this, but it turned out to be particularly providential because as his own boss he was much freer to exercise his diaconal ministry than would have been the case otherwise.

A dedicated servant of the Church. He will be missed.

Peace,
Deacon Richard

I have received this email:

Quote
Father Deacon Joseph Michael Levy Ph.D fell asleep in the Lord in the early morning hours of Thursday, March 6, 2008. He was born the second son to Joseph and +Emilia Levy on April 21, 1958 in North Olmsted, Ohio. He was raised in Parma, Ohio where he attended elementary school at St. Josaphat Parish School, high school at Byzantine Catholic High School, and graduated from Padua Catholic High School in 1976. Father Deacon Michael earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in chemistry from Cleveland State University. He went on to earn two Doctorate degrees, one in Organic Chemistry and one in Analytical Chemistry from Case Western Reserve University while working full-time as an analytical chemist for the Standard Oil Company (later British Petroleum) in Cleveland, Ohio. He was ordained to the diaconate in the Ukrainian Greco-Catholic Church on April 30, 1995 and served in that capacity in various parishes, primarily at St. Andrew UCC in Parma, OH and St. John the Baptist UCC in Southside Pittsburgh, PA. He was actively involved in various eparchial programs, most notably organizing the Acolyte Conventions. He is survived by his wife, Frances Anne, of almost twenty-eight years, his two sons Joseph Henry and Michael Joseph, his daughter, Theresa Emily, his brother Bohdan Joseph and his Father, Joseph.
