I do look at the Pope and Bishops as stewards to manage Church affairs etc etc... however,I must say, in my experience after 30 years of working for one of the largest cities in the US of A, I have never met a manager without some defects and flaws... Looks like they have a good union, don't see many getting fired  pax james

It is a paradox. One could wonder how the Church has survived with so many sinners as earthly representatives throughout history. A human explanation is ill fitted to answer that.

human yes, spirit(Holy) no  just think if every sinner with in the church got together in a group and held a lit candle in complete darkness would it be seen from above, or from a distance? ( I imagine the lit candle being the Holy Spirit with in each and everyone of us, each candle is a bit of truth together prevailing the mass darkness) Rachael

I remember hearing a story about an old Germanic chieftain who, despite the efforts of a missionary among his people, would not convert. He decided he would make up his mind only after going to talk to the Pope in Rome. He came back converted, much to the missionary's pleasant surprise. When asked what it was about the pilgrimage that made him see the light, the chief replied that there had to be something powerfully divine going on in order to keep the Church together!
