kansassummer:
Pahs- ka.
A short of short "a" sound. Not, as OLS says, with an extra "s" that makes it seem like "pass go, collect $200 as in Monoploy.

The key to the pronunciation is the X (in the Greek and Slav alphabets), which represents a consonant not really found in English. The usual attempt to express this in the Latin alphabet is KH. Hence Pahss - KHa. Good luck with it!
