Am looking for some feedback on this draft running sheet for the Divine Liturgy. The sample (with all correct information) is set up for Pentecost this year (new calendar): 11 May 2008 [melkites.org] .

We are trying to assist our English-speaking clergy, choirs, and faithful in preparing for our liturgies--including learning the music.

If you have an alternate format which you think is clearer or more useful, I'd appreciate a copy.

All the variable parts of the liturgy are listed with their texts, and links to their music, if the respective parts are sung. (You may have to scroll down to see those parts with music.) All prayers are chosen according to the rules in our typikon and other liturgical books.

I hope to automate this shortly in English, and later in Arabic and Greek, so that such sheets are available for all feasts throughout the year; initially for the Divine Liturgy, later for Orthros, Vespers, and the Complines.

My questions:
- would this format be useful to you, in preparing the liturgies, as either celebrant or participant?
- is this useful to you when learning the music for the various parts?
- if the content is of interest, but you find the format confusing, can you suggest an alternative?

That is a NEAT idea! It's so especially helpful because there are so many different tones, music, etc. of the day.

You can try this links I think:-

Either ways, I think you've been waaay ahead of me.

I must be missing something. Since Pentecost Sunday supercedes anything with which it might happen to coincide, what problem could there be? And if only the Divine Liturgy is in question, there cannot possible be a problem - check the book of your choice (the OCA Divine Liturgy book, Byzantine Daily Worship, or whatever else you like - in a pinch even the Hapgood will do) and serve accordingly.

Special parts include:

all three Antiphons (but Only-Begotten Son does not change)
the Introit
the Apolytikion (Troparion) and Kontakion
the Anti-Trisagion (we sing "All those baptized into Christ . . ."
The Prokeimenon
The Epistle
The Alleluia Verses
The Gospel
The Hymn during the Anaphora to the Theotokos (which is the Ninth Ode of the Orthros Canon)
The Koinonicon
[in some uses] the first Postcommunion Chant - although this is illogical, since "We have seen the true Light" is itself taken from the Pentecost liturgical Corpus
the Apolysis (Dismissal)

Is that clear? If you want music, check the OCA music-books.

Do melkites do the office of adoration with kneeling asking the Spirit's gifts in Pentecost?

Philippe, the kneeling prayers are part of the special Great Vespers service on Sunday night of Pentecost.

Some priests may bring the kneeling prayers forward and prayer them at the end of the Divine Liturgy if no public Vespers service is planned, but they are typically part of a special Great Vespers service.

Philippe,

My parish does this every year. Sometimes as a seperate service in the evening, sometimes after Liturgy.

I think the Second "Kneeling" Vespers of Pentecost Sunday Evening can be found in Byzantine Daily Worship.
