Shlomo Asian Pilgrim,

Each Church has it own laws. First, we Maronites in the past did not differenciate between fasting and abstinance. Some of us have gone back to the old ways. Here are our fasting times.

1. Great Lent from Ash Monday to Easter every day except on Sundays and Saturdays, the exception of Holy Saturday.

2. Apostles Lent abstinence four days 25th - 28th June

3. Assumption Lent abstinence eight days 7th - 14th August

4. Christmas Lent abstinence twelve days 13th - 24th December

5. Abstinence every Wednesday and Friday except: from Christmas to Epiphany, the Friday before Great Lent, from Easter to Pentecost, June 24th and 29th; August 6th and 15th.

hey Yuhannon can you tell me more about "The forbidden foods" of the Maronites? That was one thing that worried me when I first started seriously considering converting (we tend to be big pork eaters and I like shellfish). But when I poked around online (before I bought "Captivated by your Teaching) I actually saw online parishes that served pork in their kitchens which led me to believe that most don't follow it. And of course Captivated by your Teaching didnot mention it at all. Yet the web site that you took this from does mention it at the bottom, so is this an elective thing for those that want to be really traditional in their spirituality?
