Is the Icon on this opening page [byzantinecatholic.org] a rendition of Fatima or is it the icon that predates Fatima as mention by Dr. Alex Roman in this article? [cache.search.yahoo-ht2.akadns.net]

In the article, Dr. Roman says this:

Quote
There is even a Byzantine-Style Icon of Our Lady of Fatima which, so the tradition holds, first appeared in Russia itself before the Revolution and even before the apparitions at Fatima! It shows the Mother of God in white in the traditional pose of the "Oranta" with hands uplifted in prayer and, interestingly enough, with not a rosary, but a prayer rope in Her hand . . .

Thanks in advance.

I have a copy of it - which I obtained at Fatima several decades ago.

Father, Bless!

You have a copy of the icon shown on Our Lady of Fatima Russian Catholic Church webpage or you have a copy of the icon Dr. Roman mentions in his article. OR are they the same?

Do you have a scanner or picture of the icon you have? Or might you have any way of pointing me to a picture of it online?

Since I can't find my copy of that icon at the moment, I can't send you a reproduction of the reproduction, so to speak. But it looks rather like the one on the web-site. I suspect that this one, the reproduction I have, and the original Russian icon are one and the same.

The Fatima icon is actually a variant of the "Joy Of All Who Sorrow" icon, which appeared in Russia before the revolution. The iconographer who wrote the Fatima icon used the "Joy Of All Who Sorrow" icon as his model and simply added the figures of Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco.

I have the Fatima icon as a jpeg.
Just PM me with an e-mail address and I will send it you.
