I've always been told about Joseph's visits to Britain but hadn't really thought about it before. The article also talks about a visit from Christ. I thought at least someone on here might find it interesting. britain and christianity [ ensignmessage.com] Was Britain the first Christian nation?

Next time you visit England, do take the occasion to meet Abba Seraphim, Metropolitan of Glastonbury. He's quite an enthusiast for the place.
That Saint Augustine of Canterbury was in touch with the existing bishops in the west of Britain is historically verified. On the other hand, referring to him as "Roman Catholic" is tendentious, to put it mildly. That expression did not come into use until well after the Reformation - and almost exclusively in English, which shows who was pushing it.

Glastonbury Tor has also been claimed as the Isle of Avalon (final resting place of King Arturius) in Arthurian legends, since at least the 12th century.
That Joseph of Arimathea was a regular visitor to ancient Britain, may have no historical basis, but it did lead to the beautiful 19th century English hymn, taken from a poem by William Blake.
JERUSALEM
And did those feet in ancient time Walk upon England's mountains green? And was the holy Lamb of God On England's pleasant pastures seen? And did the Countenance Divine Shine forth upon our clouded hills? And was Jerusalem builded here Among these dark Satanic mills?
Bring me my bow of burning gold: Bring me my arrows of desire: Bring me my spear: O clouds unfold! Bring me my chariot of fire.
I will not cease from mental fight, Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand Till we have built Jerusalem In England's green and pleasant land.

St. Andrew is credited as the founder of the Church at Byzantium and a visitor to the future site of Kyiv.
He is also highly revered in Scotland.
Someone in Scotland must have known of him in the early days of christianity.

Just as a note: the link above, Ensign Magazine, is a nutty publication of the British Israel/Christian Identity variety. Well worth keeping away from, whatever the merits of the story.... ------ Western Orthodoxy [westernorthodox.blogspot.com]
