The Columbus Dispatch is running a very interesting series on illegal immigration in the heartland. I'm enjoying it very much and would like to share it with you all!

And the point is? The term, "illegal immigrant" is itself a bit of euphemistic speech designed to cast illegal aliens in a more positive light. I would agree we should have a guest worker program that allows documented non-citzens to come into the U.S. to work, get benefits, fair wages and then return home. Unfortunately, our own government is so inept and inefficient, even the current system is backlogged for years. However, we do need to enforce immigration laws. I understand some of the South American countries don't have open borders and are much more strict on immigration than the U.S.

We can't forget their human dignity, but that does not mean they have an inviolable right to penetrate our boarders with no heed to lawful civility.

Forgive my asking, but who are these "boarders" and from whom are the "boarders" under threat?

I can just remember an elderly lady in New York - she was some sort of distant relative of mine - who in her youth had run a boarding house mostly for people from County Cavan in Ulster. For decades after the boarding house closed, Mrs. Duffin was still the central contact for the one-time boarders and their friends and relatives in Ireland and in the USA. I don't remember that anyone was threatening the boarders - and that's the only boarding house with which I've ever had even the slightest connection.

I remember very distinctly that I was referring to "Mexican Boarders", http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056235/
