Has the full-on ceremonial been preserved at the Phanar? Were you perhaps suggesting something more modest? Even if Agia Sophia were to remain untouchable for the foreseeable future, can't the ceremonial of Agia Sophia be carried out on some occasions in a large Orthodox Church --- say, the huge cathedral in Belgrade, or even in some Greek cathedral?

Not really - it's more a question of design and lay-out than of size.

Rule 1: the really stupid question is the one you don't ask!
Father Taft is an amazing linguist, and would not regard anybody as an expert on the Byzantine Liturgy if the prospective expert could not easily handle Byzantine Greek, Patristic Greek, LXX Greek, and of course Syriac.
There are some people in Greece who are working on these matters - and they themselves will assure you that Taft is essential.

Fr. Serge Fr. Serge, Could the "old" liturgy could be said in St. Demetrius or one of the other old churches in Thessaloniki?

It might be possible - would require, again, an analysis of the design and layout of the buildings (note the plural).
