27th Annual Carpatho-Rusyn Celebration

Sunday, October 26, 2008
12 noon to 7:00 pm

St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church Hall

There will be Rusyn foods such as holupki, pirohi, halushki, kolbasi and sauerkraut, potato pancakes, soup, baked goods, and much more available for sale thoroughout the afternoon. This annual event will feature Rusyn folk-dancing by Slavjane Folk Ensemble and Rusyn folk music by the group Ruskyj Muzikanti. John Righetti, President of the Carpatho-Rusyn Society, will be giving Rusyn cooking demonstrations and will also give a lecture on Rusyn history and folk customs. At 1:30 p.m. there will be a presentation led by Fr. Thomas Wesdock (pastor of St. John's Church)about his 2008 trip to Eastern Europe for Old Calendar Pascha. Others will speak about the Carpatho-Rusyn Heritage Tour to the Rusyn homeland that took place this past July. Church tours will be given thoroughout the day. The Coal and Coke Heritage Center (Penn State-Fayette Campus) will have a display as will the Carpatho-Rusyn Society. There will be Rusyn Pysanky demonstrations, iconography, bobbin lace making, and other Rusyn Folk art demonstartions. Children's activities such as egg art, cookie decorating, coloring/craft projects, and storytelling, to name a few. Displays depicting Carpatho-Rusyn culture will be on hand. There will be many Rusyn cultural items (books, music cd's, small gifts) for sale as well.

...just set your "Star Trek" food replactor to the "Rusyn food" setting. grin

A special Church Slavonic Divine Liturgy will be held in conjunction with the 27th Annual Carpatho-Rusyn Celebration at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, Uniontown PA. The Stara Slavans'koho Sluzhba Bozha is scheduled for 10:30 AM. Celebrant will be Fr. Thomas Wesdock.
