Does anyone know of a parish that puts out a really well done weekly bulletin (available online)? Looking to reorganize our current version with a more dynamic/professional/organized presentation.

In the GOA, we have a service known as "Bulletin Builder" that is for use by all our parishes and institutions that provides us with various tools and materials for our bulletins. First, before you ask, it is exclusively restricted to parishes and institutions of the GOA, and provided by an ongoing Leadership 100 grant free of charge.

On a weekly basis, we are able to download the scripture readings for that Sunday, lives of the saints for the upcoming weeks, hymns for that Sunday, and various news items and hierarchical encyclicals, along with a selection of patristic quotations relevant to that week's lections. When we are finished with the selection process which takes about 10-15 minutes, we then have the file delivered to us in .rtf format by email so that it can be then cut and pasted into a word processing document for hard copy publication. Also at the same time the material is published online in a virtual bulletin.

There are a few other services available and I come upon them from time to time. You may want to also search a few parish web pages and look at their examples of bulletins published on the sites. You will find more and more parishes are doing that.

I like the bulletins of the Ukrainian Cathedral in Philadelphia. It is five pages in PDF format, the first page is the basic information, only the date changes week to week.

The second page is the weekly liturgical intentions.

There are usually two pages for events and one page for teaching about Saints, Feasts, and Liturgy.

I wish they'd release the tool or at least the code. We've asked in the past, but the archdiocese has said no every time.

THis looks like a pretty good bulletin. Seems like there's a lot of community spirit in this parish even if some activities are a bit latitinized.

I think our church bulletin has really improved over the last year. It went from being a printed bulletin board to being informative and worth reading. Take a look at them on our website. If you go back to past bulletins before October 2007 and compare, you'll see what I mean. Just remember, when putting your bulletin together, it is the most educational tool your parishioner will hold in their hands this week. Use it wisely and your parishioners won't realize they are learning while reading.

It is very nice - as I recall Fr. James (Bankston) wanted to improve it when he was assigned to the Cathedral.

I also agree with Two Lungs - the Archeparchial Cathedral bulletin is also nice.

Thank you for looking at our bulletin. Fr. James was very instrumental in the changes that occurred. He is a very community involved priest and relized the importance of educating the parishioners without them realizing they were being taught. So much of our traditions have been lost and need to be brought back. I agree with Fr. Valarie who stated in one of his bulletins, that ...understanding our traditions gives us a rich treasury from which we can draw strength and knowledge to deepen our bond to Christ and His Church, our only salvation. This is so true!
I can not tell you how much I miss Fr. James, his help and guidance since he was transferred to San Diego. He had such a great vision for our cathedral. I hope the people in San Diego come to appreciate all that he has to offer.

Indigo, this is the church I mentioned in another post which I attend whenever I am traveling in New Mexico (it's the only parish in the state, unfortunately). An interesting fact about this parish is that one of the deacons has a brother who is a deacon in a local Orthodox church. Also, this is the one I mentioned where the priest calls out loudly for all visitors to announce themselves and to say which parish they are from. Yes, there are is quite a mix there. The choir sings beautifully many traditional Russian hymns (and they made a CD for sale!) but the congregation also prays the Rosary communally. There are stained glass windows that look Latin but are very beautiful. The decoration is a mix of several styles, it seems. A very welcoming community that reminds me of St. Basil's.

Ruthenian, thanks for pointing out your previous posts. Sounds like the community spirit does indeed live up to the bulletin.
