Dear Gwenyfur,

There is a Slavonic Akathist to St Catherine at:

kazan.eparhia.ru

They have English on the site, but don't know if you can get it in English.

Although your screen name suggests, to me at least, that you know Church Slavonic! smile

Dear Friend,

As you know, the wheel is St Catherine's symbol as she was martyred on the wheel. Along with St Catherine are venerated the 100 philosophers who publicly debated her on Christianity but were convinced of the truth of the Christian faith and were baptised in blood by being martyred with her.

In Ukraine, St Catherine's Day is marked by serving hot honeywine!

that's a lovely tradition...

I think I've read most of the stories that I can find online about her life, wisdom granted by God, and her faith in her Groom.

I'm always amazed and humbled and reminded of the worm of a sinner that I am when I read of the Saints...their fearlessness and bravery in the face of persecution and death...and am reminded of how much more I must learn and how much better I should live...

St Catherine is my Patron...and her prayers on my behalf have yielded much...

Hot Honeywine eh?

Can't say I've ever had it...but will make note of it for next year biggrin Thank you for letting me know...

Though I admit to a touch of confusion...on the OCA site it said it was Nov 24th, but on ancient faith radio, they say it's today...

probably another one of those NC vs OC things, but I tell ya, it's confusing to a n00b like me LOL biggrin
