I am not a member of the KofC but am considering membership, so I was wondering what Eastern Catholics thought about the 1.7 million-man Catholic fraternity. Does it have a relationship with any Eastern-rite churches, or participation from their members? Is there anything theologically problematic about KofC from a Byzantine POV? I would also like to know more about Eastern Christian approaches to "parachurch" communities. My sense is that the Eastern Church has never gravitated towards sodalities and other lay associations of the faithful because of the centrality of liturgy.

I have been a member of two UGCC psrishes, both of which, at the time, had KofC chapters. I am sure I have seen references to KofC chapters at other parishes in both UGCC and BCC church publications. I have never heard anything from EC clergy or laity suggesting "that the Eastern Church has never gravitated towards sodalities and other lay associations of the faithful because of the centrality of liturgy." I would question how the centrality of the Liturgy could be seen as an obstacle to such associations.

Thanks, Tim. Like I said, it was just a "sense." Would it be more fair to say the Eastern Churches have not experienced the same zeal for or proliferation of such associations that we see in the Western Church? And if so, why?

I know that up East they are more popular. My parish once had a council, but one of our priests shut it down as a "Latin thing." We instead have a men's group and are trying (unsuccessfully) to get the GCU here.

There is an active Council in Toronto; I think it's connected to Saint Demetrius parish.

I am a Byzantine Catholic of the Ruthenian Rite and I am a member of the KofC. I can recommend this group to you. They are wonderful organization.
I am hoping you will become a fellow Knight.
Yours in Christ! Ray

"Ruthenian Rite"?? You mean "Ruthenian Recension" of the Constantinopolitan Particular Church tradition. U-C

In Pennsylvania, a disproportionate portion of the leadership of our council was Byzantine Catholic.
Here in Nevada, Father Vivona was are state chaplain for several years.
In my own parish, Father Marcus is actively pushing the organization of the Knights (though due to our size, we'll start with a Round Table rather than a council.
When I was out (in Regalia) a week ago for the Maronite parish consecration, two of the six priests let me know that they were knights.
No shortage of Eastern Catholics in the Knights, although I understand that the GCU is generally preferred. However, in most of the country, there just isn't the infrastructure that the KofC already has, and the group would be largely on its own.
