I heard a rumor that St. Nicks in Edison NJ was closed by Bishop William a couple weeks ago. Although I have never been to this parish it is always sad to hear one go. Does anyone know what happened?

AMM:

I had to wonder about the numbers, too, but you beat me to it. My own new parish church was built at the same time and dedicated in that same year for the same amount but for 800 families. And we're still neck-deep in mortgage debt. In fact, the last I heard our monthly payment is about $2500 and we started a new campaign to pay it off. That's after two pledge campaigns to pay for some of it and three bequests that totaled in excess of $1.5 million to start. (A building never comes in at budget and later problems needed additional funds.)

Unbelievable. Guess you could get more $$$ for selling the newer church than the older one.
