Holy Images: An Exhibition of Russian Orthodox Icons from the 18th and 19th Centuries

February 13–15, 2009.

St. Jonah Orthodox Church, 2910 Spring Cypress Road, Spring, TX 77388.

Over 50 icons will be on display, depicting images of Christ, the Virgin Mary, Saints and other subjects — exquisite examples of Orthodox Christian iconography in the traditional style of the Russian schools. There will be new icons not displayed previously.

Ethnic foods, pastries, and beverages will be for sale. St. Jonah Books and Gifts will be open.

Friday, February 13. Exhibit times: 3:00 pm – 9:00 pm.

This year there will be no lectures on Friday. However, food will be served in the building behind the Church, and there will be music.

Saturday, February 14. Exhibit times: 11:00 am – 5:00 pm.

1:00 pm – John Lickwar: “The Icons of the Annunciation and of the Myrrh-bearing Woman.”
2:00 pm – Church Choir, singing a selection of Orthodox hymns used at various seasons of the Church year.
3:00 pm – Fr. James Early: “From Baptist to Bosnia to Byzantium.”
5:00 pm – Vigil will be served, and all are invited to attend.

Sunday, February 15. Exhibit times: 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm.

2:00 pm – Church Choir, singing a selection of Orthodox hymns used at various seasons of the Church year.
3:00 pm – Fr. John Whiteford: “Why we venerate the saints.”
