Yes. How very sad that abortion is so important to President Obama, that he will risk closing some of our best hospitals. frown

To hear posters describe pro-lifers as merely angry and lacking compassion is so far from the truth. Yet it is the caricature that the pro-abortion people and their willing accomplices in the media have created of us. We can see that some people here who claim to be faithful Catholics and Orthodox really believe that there are issues that are more important than the right of life of their fellow Americans.

I have posted many times that if people who are truly concerned about respecting life would vote for only pro-life candidates within their chosen political parties then the Democrat Party could go from being pro-death to being pro-life in a few election cycles and the Republican Party could become much more solidly pro-life. Yet, especially in the Democrat Party few are willing to do this, or even to give it serious consideration. They hide behind nice rhetoric and don’t actually do anything.

I think the issue here before us who are truly dedicated to life is how to speak to the people who have bought into the pro-abortion rhetoric? It is all very nice to say we must first change hearts but we see precious little of that coming from the pro-abortion side (which uses the line as rhetoric to stop the discussion). All of the compassion comes from the pro-life side, with the pro-lifers being the ones who provide alternatives to abortion. How do we witness life in a way that can cut through the media hatred of us that many good people buy into?

As always, let us pray for one another and let us pray that the Lord will lead our country towards life.

And let us pray for President Obama, that the Lord lead him from the forces of death that surround him regarding the protection of innocent life into the forces of life.
John, well said!

One aspect of that council was that persons took responsibility for their own actions unless some handicapping condition limited them. Another was that education was not hostile to religion. Both of those councils are now ignored or worse, seen to be anathema in our brave new world. This option to a Catholic monarchy no longer exists.

What we have now is the clear choice between voting for evil or against it. If one votes for a government that supports the killing of babies and homosexualist marriage than whoever does so has sided with the enemy. No rhetoric no matter how nice it sounds will hide that fact.

I'd much prefer Christendom to what we had even up until the 1960s, but one could live with it. Now, there really is no option to Christendom with a Catholic Monarchy, is there?

Amen brother. It is very cut and dry.

The day after the march for life in Washington, D.C, (and the anniversary of Roe v Wade), Mr Obama signed the order that uses our tax dollars for overseas abortions. That was an act of war---a war on the children in the womb.

Something smells evil to me.

I have to wonder what Obama would think of the logic used to justify limiting a family to two children: http://women.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/women/families/article5627634.ece

Dear Fr Deacon Paul,

I think you asked this question genuinely, so I will give you a genuine response.

I have not looked at those materials, and I won't. I already know what an abortion looks like --in photos and in videos-- and I don't need to see it again.

Also, I find it repellant that you insist on showing such materials. Yes, abortion itself is repellant. So too is any form of murder and genocide. And I (and others like me) have seen plenty of pictures and videos of unjust killing.

Instead, the issue is about finding a way to communicate about abortion that will actually reduce the number of abortions and lead to it being made illegal again. Gruesome photos and videos don't do that. Dialogue does.

And it is because you are clearly willing to dialogue, I decided to respond with my reasons why looking at gruesome images is not appealing or persuasive to me.

Respectfully yours,

-- John

John,

The graphic images are certainly repulsive, I agree. For years the pro-life Congressmen tried to outlaw "Partial-Birth abortion." While the Democrats were the majority and/or the President was "pro-choice" the bill was vetoed and there wasn't a 2/3 override vote. It wasn't until finally we had a president who would sign the bill that it was passed and signed. The Bishops still had to conduct a HUGE effort to convince the country that this infanticide is wrong and Senator Santorum, on the floor of the Senate shocked his colleagues out of denial with graphic images of how a doctor squashes the life of an almost breathing baby. Without this effort the "Partial Birth" and "Born-Alive" acts would probably have been defeated.

Going back a few generations, the world was shocked to hear of the Nazi atrocities at Auschwitz and other concentration camps. Without the shocking photos of walking corpse and stacks of near skeletons many people would not have been aware of the atrocity and would have denied that it happened. This country is in denial of the tragedy of abortion; they just don't want to talk about it.

How do you establish a dialogue with people who are in denial? Its impossible! Its similar to another thread about the middle east's persecution of Christians. Waiting for people to get involved on their own isn't effective.

Thank you for listening,
Christ is among us!
Fr Deacon Paul

From the Catholic League

PUBLIC OPPOSES FUNDS FOR ABORTION

The results of a Gallup poll asking the American people how they view some of President Barack Obama’s early decisions are revealing: his lowest support is on the issue of funding abortion. Three of four Americans agree with him on four of the issues asked about, and two-thirds support him on another; there were only two issues where he failed to receive majority approval (the closing of Gitmo and abortion funding).

Only 35 percent of Americans polled said they agreed with Obama on the following issue: “Allowing U.S. funding for overseas family planning organizations that provide abortions.”

Catholic League president Bill Donohue is making sure the Congress knows the voice of the people:

“We are contacting all members of the 111th Congress today notifying them that the American people do not want their money spent on paying for someone’s abortion. This has drastic consequences given the fact that the very day after President Obama approved funding for overseas abortions, he promised to restore U.S. funding of the U.N. Population Fund, a pro-abortion agency. And he has promised to sign the Freedom of Choice Act, the most sweeping and radical abortion-rights legislation ever written.

“The people have spoken. They generally like what Obama is doing so far, but they draw the line on funding abortion. It would behoove him to pay more attention to the American people on this subject and less time listening to the extremists at Planned Parenthood and NARAL.”

The public will become calloused to pro-abortion activism or be driven to voice opposition. Which do you think will be the result of this protection and expansion of "rights"?
