Dear Friends,
Mary and I have been hoping to get pregnant for a while now. She is getting very discouraged. Please remember us in your prayers.
Thank you,
Ryan

My prayers that Mary will conceive. Please be patient and don't get discouraged. I know of many people who have prayed and been granted their prayers, but in some cases, it was years.
I humbly suggest that you research some saints like St. Anna, the Mother of the blessed Theotokos, or St. Irene Chrysovolantou, and decide on a saint that you and Mary feel close to start praying to together. You can also pray for this intention to the blessed Virgin Mary who is always compassionate to our needs and our sorrows (since Mary also shares her holy name)...Without fail, together go to special services for prayer intentions, ask your priest and ask monastics to pray for this intention, and try to make the special effort of a pilgrimage to a holy site, shrine and/or monastery for this cause. Instead of a secular vacation, take a pilgrimage vacation...God will bless you in many ways for it, I promise. I cannot emphasize this enough...
Most recently a church friend of mine, who has been married for a few years, had her baby churched for the 40 days blessing. She confided in me that she and her husband (he is Polish) had made a special pilgrimage trip when visiting Greece to the tomb and monastery founded by St. Nektarios on the island of Aegina. They prayed there to conceive. She got pregnant thereafter, and believed that is was no coincidence that the exact 40 days fell on his feast day!
I know of another friend who did not conceive for ten years. She made a pilgrimage to the holy site of the Theotokos, where many miracles occur, on the island of Tinos and then conceived.
Ofcourse, you don't have to travel to Europe for a pilgrimage. There are many holy sites, churches and monasteries to visit in the U.S. Many Orthodox, for instance, have visited the shrine church of St. Irene Chrysovolantou in Astoria, Queens, NYC for this intention and recieved answer to their prayer.
Also, another pious custom is to make a promise to the saint you have chosen to pray to for this intention, to honor them by giving your child their name if you conceive.
I have heard many miraculous stories from lay people and monastics, so please don't give up, relax, and don't despair...It has also been said that anxiety about conceiving can actually prevent conception sometimes.
May our Lady Theotokos intercede for Mary and you.
In Christ, Alice

Prayers for our brother, Ryan, and for Mary, that they not be discouraged in their efforts to concieve a child and that they be blessed with this gift of God
"One day all our ethnic traits ... will have disappeared. Time itself is seeing to this. And so we can not think of our communities as ethnic parishes, ... unless we wish to assure the death of our community."

Lord of the Powers be with us, for in times of distress we have no other help but You. Lord of the Powers, have mercy on Mary and Ryan.
