Dear friends:

I think some will be interested to hear our latest news: HRM move [hrmonline.org] . We're very excited about this new opportunity.

May the Lord bless your community at all times!

The Church needs a vibrant monastic witness. Thank you for all your efforts.

Many years to the community! I pray this cooperation will be fruitful and as successful as Monastère de Chevetogne.

Thanks for the prayers and good will!

The reference to Chevetogne is an interesting one. Bear in mind that that community was founded in the early 20th century, before Vatican II and all the developments since (Balamand, Orientale Lumen, Eastern Code etc). It has been, and remains, a community of inestimable importance. But it also reflects something of the time of its foundation. It is a single canonical entity with two "choirs", a Latin Rite and a Byzantine Rite choir, and (as I understand it) the abbot must be drawn from the Latin Rite section.

What we're exploring with our brothers at Valyermo most certainly would not be possible without the pioneering work of the fathers of Chevetogne, but should also take us further. What we want is to retain the canonical and spiritual integrity of both communities each under their own abbots. Both communities should respect the distinctiveness of the other, whether liturgical, spiritual or even in terms of the intangible things that made every monastic community in the world something unique, the "personality" of the place if you like.

In other words, what we're looking for is a true partnership of equals, a real breathing with both lungs. It's still early days, so keep us in your prayers.

Now, if only we (as in HRM) could learn to SING like the angels who chant at Chevetogne :-)

Many years to Archimandrite Nicholas and the brethren!

Perhaps in this discussion about Chevetogne it is not a coincidence that the foundation of St. Andrew's is descended from that of St. Andre of Belgium... grin

I still would like to get the final story on why HRM switched jurisdictions?

The reasons have been posted in a place or two, perhaps someone could find a link...

I accept that what is offered is mostly what I need to know. Actually, I don't "need" to know anything about the reasons, but you get the idea.

I just wish them well, and keep them in my prayers.

HRM has not switched jurisdictions. It will continue to be under the omophor of the Romanian Catholic Eparchy of Canton while the monks live at Saint Andrew's Abbey in Valyermo.

Very Interesting!

May God prosper the work of their hands.

I thought the plan was to move to New Jersey?
