I am pretty serious. It was a war, and Russians
found in residence of an Austrian "senator"
petition to the governments of Central Powers,
their enemies, concerning separation of a great
part of Russian Empire, "autocephalization" and
"unionization" of the Orthodox Church there and
so on. So the Russian government had some real
reasons to act.
Of course, it was a POLITICAL mistake - inprisoned Metropolitan gained world opinion's sympathy. But hardly a "war crime" or something
alike.

More seriously: are you sure we're talking about
the same person? Do you know when did he live,
his birthplace and place of death?

Yes, I know (however, Metropolitan's enemies like to gossip about L. Fiodorov or J. Slipyj as sons of Metropolitan; some people are unable to abstain from insulting those great personalities they cannot even understand ).

Yes, this information I have according to my wife's grandfather, a Ukrainian Greek-Catholic priest - so I tend to believe him!

I have written an English akathist to Met. Andrew Sheptytsky and an acquaintance of mine, a theologian, has provided numerous comments and corrections which I have yet to attend to . . .

In any event, it is amazing what kind of calumnies are aimed at the Holy Metropolitan!

As for the Russians, I think they would have arrested him no matter what . . .

As they say in Ukrainian, "If someone wants to hit a dog, they will always find a stone!"
