Dan Rooney, the owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, as been named as President Obama's ambassador to Ireland. This ties in the fact that most of our members are from Pennsylvania and it is St. Patrick's Day. http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/29737056/

We have had car salesmen as the Representative of the USA sent to us. It would be nice to have a diplomat now and again, or at least a former Congressman/woman.

You don't suppose this is a sneaky way of interfering with Steelers football do you? Seems to me, they were big supporters anyway of Pres. Obama Anyway, the moderator of an email list I am on,from Ireland, so I sent this yesterday to the list, and this was his response. It sounds like it will be quite nice, and maybe being in this location will have a spiritual impact on 'Ambassador' Rooney. A Papal Cross always before him, Humm, maybe he will become more aware of his faith. This is the list moderators response...He'll have a lovely house just across the road from the President of Ireland in Europe's biggest enclosed park. The Phoenix Park. There are many game pitches there so he'll have plenty of space to play ball! BTW Just outside his residence is the big Papal Cross where Pope John Paul celebrated his first Mass in Ireland before over a million people - including yours truly. That was almost a third of the population of Ireland at the time.

Dan Rooney is constantly praised by past and present Latin bishops of Pittsburgh and priests for his faithfullness. Let us not judge him for a single political mistake. http://www.pittsburghcatholic.org/newsarticles_more.phtml?id=1597

Dan Rooney should know his faith and where the church stands on abortion. His support for Obama and his going to Ireland to represent what has become an abortionist government is not something I take lightly. My respect for Mr. Rooney is gone.
I see Mr. Rooney frequently at daily morning Mass. Before he goes to Ireland, I intent to bring to Mass my wife - who was taken in by the Little Sisters of the Assumption in Cali, Colombia at birth because her mother wanted to put her in a trash can - and my 14 month old son - and sit right next to Mr. Rooney - while wearing a "We Vote Pro Life" button.
When I am aware of a serious sin - or a number of venial sins - I don't go to Communion. To me, support for Obama is a serious sin.

Dan Rooney's appointment as Ambassador to Ireland was in the rumor mill not long after he publicly came out in support of Obama, so this appointment comes as no surprise. His support for President Obama most definitely was a surprise. Blinded by ambition, maybe? I just don't get it.
As the article Deacon Lance shared here shows, Rooney has done much for the city and people of Pittsburgh as well as the church here. I am pretty much bewildered.

Ireland must have the same low diplomatic status as Australia for the USA I see. Not quiet the same as going to the Court of St James, or Berlin.

I am also from the Pittsburgh area- my hubby is from the North Side and is a diehard Steeler fan and we were both so saddened by Rooneys support of Pres. Obama but when he gave thanks to him after the superbowl win instead of to God was just unforgivable and has really soured things for us. I sometimes wonder what Troy P. thinks of it all. I love how many times that man blesses himself on the field. You dont see that very often except for bike racers. We watch the Tour de France and we just love it when they cross the finish and bless themselves, kiss their cross and raise their hands up to God in thanks. I thought that commercial that was out with Troy and LT had a great "pro-life" message with the little baby running in the ultrasound but you hardly ever see it anymore and if you do its cut short and they skip that part. I wonder if they had preasure from pro-abortion groups?

Here, we have a life long Irish Catholic who tries to attend daily Mass--suddenly, he is supporting the most pro-abortion president this country has ever seen. Unbelievable! Then we hear that he has been named as ambassador to Ireland! Something smells rotten in Denmark--er--I mean---Ireland.

It is really shameful how many Catholics abandon Catholic Values when they go into a voting booth. I am still very embarrassed that more then half of all Catholics voted to support abortion last November by choosing pro-abortion candidates.
May God lead Mr. Rooney back home to Jesus.

I think the reason is simple.
People convince themselves to vote for the Candidates based on their perceived strengths on other areas, and rationalize that they are not supporting Abortion, but are supporting this Candidate or that due to the economy, or the need to advance agriculture, or to better public education.
I also think that a lot of people just don't think these matters through other logical conclusion.
