St. Spyridon's Mission in Puerto Rico
I wanted to share with you all our humble mission here in Puerto Rico.
Two of the pictures were from our recent visit of Metropolitan Athenagorus and Archbishop Dimitrios head of the Greek Church in America. They were down here for the Leadership 100 conference. This is a special group of well off individuals who donate $100,000.00 or more per year to the Patriarchate. They graced us with their presence on the last day of the conference for Liturgy.
Anyway, this is a glimpse at our humble mission. We are in the process of trying to purchase land to build our own church. Right now we rent a chapel that the Roman Catholic's do not use. There are not many Orthodox in Puerto Rico but we are growing slowly. As many of you know it is not easy to attract converts without an established building of your own let alone the how on locals react to a faith not self-serving as the local Protestant denominations. Another interesting fact is that the church we have now is located on a historic leper colony with a very beautiful view of surrounding mountains. The complex was converted, that is the land belonging to the government as the church belongs to the Roman Catholic archdiocese, to a low security mental hospital / home. We often get residents coming in for parts of our services and they are very sweet people. They do not understand what is going on often but God speaks to them in His ways.
I manage the website as kind of a project / hobby and we have the whole KJV audio bible online for those who wish to listen and also some nice Orthodox articles. I hope you enjoy the pics.
In Christ,
Daniel
