Hello,
I was curious if anyone knew of any programs or anyone taking appreciates in the New England Area for Icon Writing? I want to learn but it is such a rare form of devotion in the US it is hard to find masters willing to teach.
Thanks!
Tony

There is an iconographer in Berlin NH who offers instruction; the phone number is 603 723 4486. And in Meriden CT there is another; his website is wwwseraphicrestorations.com He looks like a fantastic iconographer, by the way... Both of these work with egg tempera.

DrAnt,
Check with St Basil's Monastery in Methuen. There was a young Basilian monk there, very talented, who was conducting classes - I'm blanking on his name at the moment. He transferred to Virgin Mary Melkite parish in Brooklyn when Father John Farras was elected Superior General of the Salvatorians and had to return to Lebanon, but I heard a rumor that he was back in Methuen - not sure if it's accurate or not.
Many years,
Neil

St Basil's no longer teachers iconography. I have emailed and asked. However, I didn't know an eastern monastery was so close, so that is a plus! Anyone else with ideas? If not its the 2 hour commute to CT!

DrAnt, Try this - Xenia Yaronofsky [izograph.com]. She's in Sharon, MA. I have heard of the lady but don't know a lot about her - perhaps Dan, Ray, David, or others here know of her. She has done some commissioned icons for Holy Transfiguration Monastery in Brookline, which speaks to a level of God-given talent, as Holy Transfiguration is itself known for the quality of its own iconography. Many years, Neil

I know of Xenia and her work... In fact Marek in CT was her student... She only seems to do week long workshops around the country... But thanks again!

He restored all the statues at my mother's parish and also did a fair amount of iconography for another parish where his studio was formerly located.

Indeed, I agree with you John... The only complaint is the distance... It is a 2 hour drive from my home...
