Yes, Alice, I think that's totally legitimate.
Are there not chants with which the faithful would be familiar? For example, in Roman Catholicism, the Credo and the Pater Noster are set to familiar chants so the faithful can join right in, while still allowing the prayers to be chanted.
Alexis Indeed there are...the Christos Anesti/Christ is Risen hymn, above all, and others like 'Tin Ipermaho/Champion General', the hymn from the Akathist to the Mother of God which we chanted with Father yesterday...besides being the feast of the Annunciation, it is also the day that Greece celebrates its independence from 400 years under Ottoman Turkish rule... (This was also the hymn chanted when Constantinople was miraculously saved from one particular attempt of the Ottoman Turks to take over...) Don't forget that most services in the Orthodox church are chanted by both clergy and laity, so to be able to recite these two prayers is almost a welcome relief! Regards, Alice

Alice,
Thank you for the information! But I was specifically wondering about familiar chants of the Our Father and Apostle's Creed among the faithful.
Father Deacon James,
What is done in about the reception of Communion?

Father Deacon James,
What is done in about the reception of Communion? Alexis, what do you mean? The Ukrainian parish is Ukrainian Orthodox and the Antiochian is Antiochian Orthodox.

Yes. Actually quite an interesting study in Orthodox unity. We've been getting some press recently. The local Antiochian parish received an offer they couldn't refuse for their church building (which was just an old business office). They sold their building and have not yet started building their new building yet. In the mean time, our parish offered to let them worship with us. With the bishop's blessing, our priest is the lead priest one Sunday with our choir, and the Antiochian priest leads the service with their choir the next Sunday. Weekday services are usually served by the Antiochian priest. It's interesting to merge the two styles of worship and two jurisdictions under one roof. Please pray for us. Fascinating, Father. If I may ask, since I'm a Hoosier in exile, where in Indiana are you?

Michael Thoma,
Oops! I'm so sorry. I've been so busy reading for school lately I've taken to quickly skimming lots of things - including discussions on this Forum. Not a good idea! Sorry. Thought it was Ukrainian Catholic.

Alexis: Yes, we are both SCOBA orthodox, so communion is just as it normally is.
Prof: Goshen, Indiana.
