I have a friend here, a disaffected Roman Catholic, whom I took to Presanctified last night. He was extremely moved, and when he gets back from Iraq, wants to go back (he's shipping out 4/7, and will be there for six months). I'll be in contact with him while he's overseas. He suspects he'll be stationed elsewhere after he gets back, but who knows.

Poaching is bad form, even if it will be many decades before we break even. Still, while your friend is in Iraq, ask him to visit a parish of the Assyrian Church of the East or the Chaldean Catholic Church. He will find it very interesting as compared to the Byzantine rite--like, and yet very unlike.

Prof,
Not sure what you're asking for here, but since you seem to be seeking advice rather than prayers (I'll pray for him as well), I would recommend keeping in close touch but not pushing the issue of religion--let him bring it up.
If your friend was truly moved by his experience at Presanctified, it is likely that it will keep coming back to him during this difficult time.
Of course, if he hasn't brought up the subject by the third contact, by all means bring it up, but--gently. Avoid the temptation of wanting to show how much this means to you. Remember that this is between him and God, and you can only do your part humbly and allow God to do His.
Peace, Deacon Richard

I think "poaching" is a bit premature, since he may do nothing, he may end up Orthodox, or he may end up Byzantine, depending on many factors, not the least of which is whether he comes back alive.
