Ruthenian,

I find it pretty interesting that you're not at all opposed to becoming an Orthodox Christian. Without wanting to pry into your personal business, is it mostly because you don't accept certain Catholic doctrines, or that you are so drawn to Byzantine worship and theology that the doctrines take a "back seat,"...or neither?

Unreal...the priest didn't notice or care? Sweet but misguided granny.

Ruthenian,

The Byzantine Catholic fast of one hour before the Eucharist is reasonable for children over two or three (unless physically unwell). If young children eat/drink something prior to one hour they should have no problem. If the child is fussy then there are substitutes for food which are available. Having them focus on the pictures, or the candles, or sitting up front where they can watch the processions usually occupy them for a short time. In other cases (which will occur) there is always the vestibule.

I DO encourage bringing them even if they misbehave or fuss; leaving them home may be easier but doesn't encourage a family's spiritual growth.
Fr Deacon Paul
