Just curious, how many of you maintain the custom of wearing green on Pentecost?

I've always seen Green being worn on Trinity Sunday (even in latinized parishes!)

In Ukrainian it (Trinity Sunday) is colloquially referred to as "Green Holidays".

Glory to J.Ch.
(unless you use one of the Ascension greetings, then that!)

I always wear green, the only other occasions for this color would be Lazarus Saturday/Palm Sunday, plus for Old Testament Prophets, some Russians use green for Venerable Fathers such as St.Sergius of Radonezh.I've seen at least one Serb priest with green on today's Ascension Feast(the parish Feast Day where I serve,BTW).I did wear white today, however, though the parish is Serbian.I'm not sure that Serbs have a color scheme like the East Slavs,I'm fairly sure most Greeks don't.

Is the tradition of wearing green on Pentecost because of green being a symbol of new life?

The people of the Latin church where I am music director, wear red every year for Pentecost. They've done it for many years.

I had not previously realized that Pentecost was some sort of Irish religious holiday!

But on Pascha in Ireland one properly sings:

Insurrexit sicut dixit, Alleluia!

Because that has been the law in the Roman Rite for Pentecost (and its Octave, which is still observed in the "Forma Extraordinaria" of the Roman Rite) since time immemorial.

Theoretically, in the Roman Rite, gold may replace red (and green and white) at any time, but in practice this is done only for major feasts that call for white vestments.

I've never seen Pentecost without green vestments in the Ukrainian Catholic or Orthodox churches I have attended over many years (this day is often called "Zeleniy Svyat" or the "holy green day" amongst the Ukrainians).

It's allegedly a tradition (small t) to decorate the sanctuary with boughs from the linden tree as this tree has heart-shaped leaves. Various Slavs believed that the Holy Spirit resides in one's heart. Any parishes out there do this? We have done this now and then... when someone remembers to cut the branches. ;>)

We generally always decorate with fresh greenery. Redbuds and dogwoods have to do around here.
