Any ideas anyone?
You don't have to watch the entire episode. Just click the mouse to the time I posted above at the bottom of the screen.

Not sure, but it is a beautiful Church....especially when you imagine it without pews!

I like the way "All you who have been baptized into Christ, have put on Christ, Alleluia" is chanted during the baptism. Sounds beautiful in Greek.

It looks to be Saint Eliftherios Greek Orthodox Church on 24th Street in Manhattan but it has been many years since I was there (like two decades ago). The exterior shot is definitely not of any church I have seen in the tri-state area and most likely stock video footage. The service you are listening to is part of a baptism. They are singing "As many are baptized into Christ".

Bless, Father,
The only photo on-line is of the exterior of Saint Eliftherios and it doesn't look to have the height (or the high windows) that the interior shots suggest. I know from something I read (who knows where) that Saint Eliftherios had a fire at one time and I'm guessing that it was rebuilt afterwards. Would your recollection (and the video) be of the temple as it was before the fire?
Many years,
Neil

Could be. Then again I got an email from a friend of mine and told me to check out Saint Sophia GOC in Los Angeles. Though the show was supposed to have all scenes filmed on location in New York, I suppose some could have been done back in LA. I do not have time to check out their website right now, but I am sure someone can.

My late wife and I watched that episode and cheered when Kojak kissed the hand of the priest after the latter blessed him. Now,seeing the episode more than 30 years later,I'm 95% certain that the priest is Austrian-born actor Oscar Homolka!I'm a bit disturbed about an actor putting on an Orthodox priest's vestments and imparting a blessing.Perhaps,it just happened that that Greek Orthodox priest resembled the late Oscar Homolka.

Bingo! That's the church shown on Kojak. Beautiful church in and out. http://www.stsophia.org/about/history.htmI'm also curious why the parish priest didn't play the part instead of them hiring an actor.

Yet, the movies "The Deer Hunter", "My Life", and "The Black Marble" featured the parish priest, so there must be someway around it. Maybe the priest at St. Sophia church wanted no part of the filming? Does "primary focus" mean a speaking part one on one with another actor? If so that makes sense, since the three movies I mention show the priests only performing the ritual, not actually speaking to someone one on one.
