To all good members of the Byzantine Forum:

Glory to Jesus Christ, Honor to Mary Immaculate!

I am wondering if there is a website which gives details about the Martyrs of the Ukrainian Catholic Church. Any assistance in this matter is much appreciated.

Thank you,

John Doucette

http://www.yorktonredemptorists.com/html/redemptorist_martyrs.html

Above is a link with info on Ukrainian Redemptorist martyrs.

And here's one specifically on the Redemptorist Bishop Vasyl (Velychkovsky).

On this topic. Does anyone know the name of the Ukrainian Catholic priest who the Soviets stripped naked and put inside a freezing cell hoping to kill him, yet when they returned expecting to find him dead, they instead found him praying ? I heard the story on Relevant Radio but didn't catch his name.

I recall a similar event from Fr. Arseny's memoir, though he was clothed (improperly insulated from the cold though) and shared space with one of his spiritual children.

Josyp Terelya claimed to have undergone such an experience. He also claimed to have received private visions of the Theotokos. He was a layman and reposed in the Lord suddenly, earlier this year, in Toronto, where he had been living for some time.

This page [newsaints.faithweb.com] and the several following list those of the Eastern and Western Catholic Churches who were martyred in odium fidei under the Communist regimes.

Many years,

Neil

It's worth noting that two of the Ukrainian Blessed are also considered to be by the Roman Catholic Church in Canada and the Federal Government of Canada as being Canadians. They are:

Bishop Vasyl Velychkovsky (died as an exhiled UGCC bishop in Canada)
Bishop Mykyta Budka (served as UGCC bishop in Canada for a period of time)
