I was hoping someone could help me out on this forum. I believe a while ago, I heard of a former catholic priests (Jesuit?) who converted to Eastern Orthodoxy but still was held in high esteem by his former religious order. Does anyone know anything thing about this person and where I could find any information.

I do know of a former Jesuit, Father Athanasy, who is pastor of the Church of Our Lady, Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russa, in Philadelphia, PA. Everybody seems to know him, and he is deeply loved and respected by both Orthodox and Catholics. My daughter goes to the Church of Our Lady when she is in school, and sings in the choir there, too.

My spiritual director -- a Jesuit -- told me that when he went to Mount Athos in 1984 he encountered a number of former Catholic priests, and the most anti-Catholic among them was a former Jesuit...
Other Jesuits who turned Orthodox would be Hieromonk Gabriel Patacsi and (or so I've heard) Archbishop John of the Milan Synod in the USA. (Yes, I know, the Milan Synod is generally viewed as "uncanonical".)

That's OK, I went to Georgetown and found a lot of Jebbies there who were rabidly anti-Catholic. Good thing I wasn't Catholic at the time, or I might have become disillusioned.
