Dear Friends in Christ,

Our daughter Ana is approaching 40 days old shortly. Other than being introduced to the Church.. cna someone help me understand this tradition a little bit better and why this is done... I've heard that it is also for the Mother to be cleansed...

Also..do we need to do this on a Sunday after the liturgy... Could this also be done on a Saturday..providing Father is available ?

Thank you,

Brad

The tradition extends back to the Jewish law; in fulfillment of that Law our Lord and his Mother came to the temple in Jerusalem on the 40th day after his birth, which is why the Festival of the Presentation of our Lord and Purification of Mary (Candlemass) occurs on February 2--40 days after December 25.
