I have a copy of the entire Knox Bible, but still use it often. I bought it in 1969 and have no knowledge of how to obtain one since.

I thought about it and have decided you may have my copy of Knox. Is your address the same one posted on your profile?

If you go to the SCOBA website at www.scoba.org [scoba.org] you will find a link on how to order it.

Michael Asser has completed a Septuagint translation in the KJV style; he's just looking for a publisher now. His Septuagint Psalter has been published by the Center for Traditionalist Orthodox Studies.

The NKJV, in my opinion, does not really preserve the flow of the KJV very well. For example: "The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof" (KJV); "The earth is the Lord's and all its fullness" (NKJV). Not only is "all its fullness" redundant but it loses the rhythm. The Orthodox Study Bible people recognized this and changed it to "The earth is the lord's and its fullness." But why did they get rid of "thereof" to begin with? This word is still used in common English conversation!

RSV is very clunky, in my opinion. Oftentimes, the translators gave a misguided literalism precedence over readability. Try praying Psalm 136, with every other line "For his steadfast love endures forever." Compare the KJV: "For his mercy endureth forever"- much nicer.

Many people may that be aware that the original 1611 KJV had the Deuterocanonical Books. Take a look at this link.

Many translations today are not the product of any single Christian confession. The RSV effort, as an example, was ecumenical in nature - involving Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox scholars.

On another note, Baronius Press has not announced a date for Msgr. Knox' translation to be available but it most likely will be Spring of 2010.

Thanks, Fr. Jim, for this link! I did not know this Orthodox Bible version existed. Interesting version as well as introduction and appendix. I see the NT is done and the OT is in the works. The NT can be downloaded in PDF at no charge.

Father Economos:

The Knox Bible is on its way. I was a bit busy and didn't get it off until the 24th. The USPS tracking code says it's enroute.

I ordered the hardcover version. I'll let you know.

I was sold on it when I found that it distinguished between "agapas me" and "phileis me" in the passage from John about "Simon Peter, do you love me?"

Also, the lack of polemic in the appendix was nice. The OSB has some howlers in its introduction, I think.

Thank you so very much1 I need a bit of consolation these days. I am still grieving the loss of my beloved fellow celebrant, the Very Reverend Archpriest Charles Mezzomo! Memory eternal! And great thanks to you, dear friend!
