I think Light for Life is an excellent introduction to the Orthodox faith. Western-style catechetical manuals used to be the rage in some Orthodox circles, but they were essentially pale imitations of Latin books that do not really give an adequate understanding of Eastern Christianity. If the three Light for Life volumes are slim, that's because Eastern Christianity really can't be known or understood from a purely or even principally intellectual perspective. Our catechesis has always really been our liturgy, and our approach summarized by the words of the Master, "Come and see".
