I am sorry, but this is extremely disturbing. This so called "icon" was blessed for the 2012 Euro Cup which is to take place in Ukraine and Poland jointly.

I would wager that a very tiny minority of people on the forum read Ukrainian. You are editorializing I think.

Sports teams regularly have blessings, among the Orthodox too.

A picture is worth 1000 words.

Take a look at the icon please.

Unfortunately, Deacon Borislav is not editorializing. Here is a direct link to the "icon" in question.

This is not a blessing.

This is an eastern Christian Forum, and believe it or not, a great many speak Eastern Christian tongues.

At the very least the "icon" is in poor taste and I find it very unfortunate and, yes, disturbing. However, this is not as scandalous at the Orthodox Cathedral of St. George (Australia) - the Mother church of Australia - advertising the occult products of the "Monastery Icons" company right on the cathedral website.

Did you send them an E mail alerting them to Monastery Icons? At least once every couple of months, an Eastern Christian will inquire about Monastery icons, and Irish Melkite will roll out his well polished response. Many simply are not aware of the occult link.

And St George Cathedral is hardly the Mother Church of Australia. That honor goes to the Holy Protection of the Mother of God Cathederal in Melbourne.

You can not compare a mistake made by a single parish to a decision carefully considered and made by the Hierarchy of this particular Eparchy.

If you Google "Monastery Icons" is becomes very clear on the first page that the product is fake as is the company. They have a Hindu/occult background and I am familiar with the Neil's many postings in the past.

The St. George Cathedral website identifies the church as the "mother church of Australia and New Zealand" - those are not my words but theirs.

Its not a parish, it is the cathedral. I can and do make the comparison and I think it is valid.

My point is actually this - in case you have missed my subtlety - these silly "gotcha" postings, that plague the forum, can run both ways guys.

If you do some detective work, you will run across Monastery icons in many churches, both Orthodox and Catholic. It is wrong, but a wrong done unknowingly. The "icon" in question, however, is just so wrong on so many levels, that it defies belief.

Frankly, strange things are seen in the Ukraine smile

See the headdress of Miss Ukraine 2008:

One site to keep in mind for such occasions: babelfish.org
Which provides links to free translation sites (many of which are pretty good). There are several to pick from for ukrainian-english.

But, generally, those blessings don't delve into blasphemy. The icon in question does.

It's blasphemous, IMO.
