I spoke with my pastor today regarding the St. Stephen's course and he has given his go-ahead and will write a recommendation letter for me. He said he didn't foresee any major problems as differences between Eastern Catholic and Orthodox theology would be minimal. He even thought the Orthodox Canon Law course would be moderately beneficial. Presumably if one can get a handle on one set of canon law, the transition to the other will be less daunting.

I will be applying for the course in Applied Orthodox Theology rather than the Youth Ministry program. We have people our my parish, including our deacon and two deacon candidates, who are already invested in youth ministry and have a stake in it through their children. Never having married or had children, I don't have a good feel for that area of ministry.

Now, to get to my autobiography and get a photograph (ugh!) taken.

And a charming photo it will be. wink I look maybe once a year at my application photo for seminary and then bury it again, frightful does not even begin to describe it.

Seriously though, I want to remind all, that the application deadline from what I hear is due on 1 August and they happen to be strict about that. Those interested only have a week left. So if you are seriously interested, you better hurry with your paperwork.

Just wondering about something. Graduate study is difficult and requires paying attention to the details. Clearly on the application it states that the deadline is August 15th, not the 1st! (for ebed)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now how do you all expect to pick up minute eastern thought in the pages of poorly translated Greek literature when you can't even find this tidbit of information?

Jim,

You may have to eat those words. I just checked the following link and strongly suggest you scroll down to the bottom where it indicates application deadline before you give such erroneous information.

Father Anthony,

There is some confusion about the deadline for application. Although the website lists August 1, page 2 of the catalog that includes the application says August 15. Nevertheless, I think it would be best to comply with the earlier deadline rather than have to try to argue later about admission and/or a refund of the application fee.

Sophia,

Definitely wise advice. It is hard to say which was published later, the website or the catalogue. Better to be early than late.

Father Anthony,

I checked through my personal correspondence with Father Deacon Peter Boulukos, the registrar at the Antiochian House of Studies.

He confirms that the deadline for having the applcations arrive is August 1st!

I'm not sure why the discrepancy exists between the website and the application kit.

Hello, I am new here and just wanted to say that I am also applying for the St. Stephen's diploma. I thought the deadline was the middle of August, I guess I better overnight the application. I am glad to see that other Byzantine Catholics are doing this program too. I look forward to chatting with some of you and meeting you at next summer's residency.

johnofthe3barcross,

We are glad that you will be participating as well and look forward to a fruitful discussion!

Make sure (if you have not already) that you include the letter of recommendation from your pastor.

God bless,

Gordon

Just out of curiosity, could each of our members contact me as they get their letter of acceptance so that they can be given the access to the new private forum? This should done by PM. Right at the moment, my count by those that have contacted me, we have at least ten that will be enrolling and several that are already enrolled.

That is good to hear.

BTW, to all concerned with the deadline: I e-mailed the registrar to inform him of the apparent discrepancy between the website and his e-mail and the application packet. I will post any response I receive here.

Would this program accept someone who already has some MA credit at an accredited theological program? I have already completed some of my degree, yet I am feeling as though I am not gaining what I wish to learn of the Eastern tradition/practice/mysticism (I am in a Latin Catholic program).

Would any of my credits transfer, or would I have to start from scratch?

Michael,

As in any program, contact them and see. The worse they could say is "No". I am sure though something could be worked out.
