The following was sent to me over the weekend. It is from one of the religious news services in the UK. Ekklesia Article [ ekklesia.co.uk] In IC XC, Father Anthony+

Caution: the Ekklesia piece is taken from Jonathan Luxmoore, who is not always reliable in matters to do with the Eastern Churches. In this same piece, he apparently believes that "Vladyko" is a first name! Best to be patient and await further information from better sources.

Alexsandr there is another meeting much along the lines of diocesan asmebly that was to take place on the 17th of June. A number of questions were up in the air if it could take place with so many last minute resignations from the diocesan council. If anyone sees it up, please post the link to it.
In IC XC, Father Anthony+ [/QB] Is this what you are looking for? I don't have a source address. Eli 19 June 2006, 12:03 The Sourozh diocesan assembly determined to preserve unity with the Moscow Patriarchate Moscow, June 19, Interfax - Members of the Sourozh diocesan assembly meeting in the London cathedral of the Dormition and All Saints on Saturday expressed their willingness to overcome dissention. The crisis in the diocese broke out after its former administrator bishop Basil (Osborne) had decided to move to the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Constantinople. Participants in the meeting head the message of Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia to all the faithful of the Sourozh diocese and resolved to continue the diocesan life 'according to the traditions that Metropolitan Anthony taught us' and in communion with the Mother Church to which the late founder of the diocese 'has been faithful during his long and outstanding ministry.' The assembly officially recognized archbishop Innokenty of Korsun as the new administrator of the diocese. Actions were taken 'to replace the members of the assembly who have recently relinquished their authority' due to their move to the jurisdiction of Constantinople, says the assembly's letter to Patriarch Alexy signed by the eldest clergyman of the diocese Benedict Ramsdan on behalf of all members. The meeting supported the Patriarch's decision to appoint a commission to investigate the problems in the Sourozh diocese, the official site of the Moscow Patriarchate reported Monday. A speech of Archbishop Mark of Berlin and Germany, an administrator of the parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church outside of Russia in Great Britain was met with applause. He urged to preserve the unity of the Church in paying equal attention to the needs of people of different national and cultural background. The supporters of bishop Basil did not attend the meeting.

Well that's certainly one side of the conference...it would be interesting to see the take of it from the supporters of Bishop Basil...
Been keeping an eye on Father Andrew's site (and, despite the fact that I don't agree on a lot of things with him, it is quite an interesting site) and he seems to be saying that the EP has been interfering willy-nilly....does anyone have any idea of when the EP got involved...the way one reads various websites, it's all part of a grand plan to declare the EP as the Grand Pumba....
Perplexed Anton...

This was an article that was published on the dioceseinfo.org website taken from a Russian publication. Sourozh is destroyed: the schism in the ROC in the British Isles is now a final and irreversible fact Mikhail Pozdnyaev The annual assembly of the diocese of Sourozh which took place on Saturday and Sunday in London would seem to be an internal event and of only local importance. But over the past weeks Sourozh is a term widely commented on by the Russian press. For the Moscow Patriarchate it has caused a bad headache. There is a schism within the diocese, as a result of which two thirds of the parishioners with bishop Basil Osborne at their head have left to go under the ecumenical Patriarchate. Sourozh (Sugdea) was a Greek colony in the Crimea, founded in the 3rd century BC, and sacked in the 13th century by the Tatar-Mongols. Now in its place is the small town of Sudak, with its Gonovese castle, well know by tourists. The diocese of Sourozh in England was founded by Metropolitan Anthony (Bloom) in 1962, and according to its statutes forms part of the ROC. By tradition, the diocese located in a foreign country receives its title from the ancient diocese in the Crimea which no longer exists. <![endif]> Now the English Sourozh is on the verge if not of becoming a total ruin, then a schism, as a result of which metropolitans Anthonys legacy will perish. Not the books of his sermons and talks, for even three years after his death he remains the main missionary of the ROC. It is the spirit of the diocese which is in danger of perishing. Reports about the conflict in the diocese are contradictory. The Holy Synod of the ROC has stated that bishop Basil (Osborne) did not have the right to announce his departure under Constantinople without a letter of release from ROC. A committee has been appointed to investigate the Basil affair, which includes to the surprise of many, apart from three functionaries of the Moscow patriarchate, bishop Mark (Arndt) of Berlin-Germany and of Great Britain, an archbishop of the church in exile, with which there is as yet no union. Some commentators have suggested that the diocese will be presented to him as a sign of gratitude for his personal contribution to the negotiations between ROC and ROCOR. Nearest to the truth is probably protodeacon Peter Scorer, grandson of the great Russian philosopher Sieon Frank. This is what he said in an interview on radio Liberty: Thanks to the labours of metropolitan Anthony, Sourozh was a unique diocese in the entire Moscow Patriarchate. Bishop Anthony was tolerated not only because he drew a very large number of people in England, to orthodoxy, to the church, but in Russia itself. Now the free, sobornaya (communal), diocese, unlike any other has within the Russian context become an embarrassment for Russia. They would like to see them all of a kind, so that churches abroad, which are being built in many countries, would be a something like embassy churches before the revolution. And they are representations of Moscow abroad. And they are controlled not by their local bishops, but by the DECR. On the eve of the diocesan assembly the temporary administrator of the diocese made several desperate appeals to the parishioners. At the opening of the assembly a letter from patriarch Aleksii II was read out. Without falling into despondency, let us seek that which builds up and establishes peace, firmly remembering that the path to unity cannot lie through schism, appeals the patriarch. But it would seem that the appeal was too late. As has become known to NI, a large number of older parishioners were absent from the assembly, they preferred to remain in prayer in another church with Bishop Basil. Experts assess that no less than two thirds of the sourozhites will go under Constantinople. Two questions remain unanswered. Will Bishop Basil go to Moscow for the meeting of the Synod on 17 July? And will the Dormition cathedral, which belongs to the community, pass into ownership of the ROC? The answer to the first question is clear. There is no point in Basil coming for a trial, as there is no point in the work of the commission, which is spending these days gathering additional information about the affair of the disobedient bishop. As to the fate of the cathedral, then if the ROC will announce it has claims to it, this will lead to a long court case, which almost certainly end in a fiasco. And then Bishop Basil and his flock will be able to return to their own home. Novye izvestia http://www.newizv.ru/news/2006-06-19/48429/In IC XC, Father Anthony+

Bishop Basil is a man of sense and sensitivity. My hope would be that His Grace will encourage those who have made "the journey to Amphipolis" with him or immediately following him to do their very best to refrain from comment on whatever remains in "Sourozh" or "Sergievo" and instead concentrate on continuing to build the Church for the future. They would gain nothing - and even lose much - by sniping at Sourozh from the sidelines. Besides, an old proverb found in many languages wisely advises us never to spit in the water from which we have drunk.

In IC XC, Father Anthony+ I haven't read the article yet but just as a first reaction there are many more of the clergy going that I expected. Don't know why, but that ratio fo those going and those remaining took me by surprise. And again thank you for keeping this at the fore, in the news. I don't know how precisely but, if God's willing, then this internal jurisdictional struggle in Orthodoxy might pave the way for resumption of communion with the west in some way. I pray the fire is allowed to purify and soften hearts for the good of all. Eli

In IC XC Father Anthony+ I've stayed out of this one for the most part, but I don't like the sound of a Church coming out with an Enemies List.

Dr Eric,
I definitely have to agree with you there.

Not to contradict Gordo, but personally I would hope that this "Enemies List" is someone's idea of a joke.
Still, it's ironic. Throughout the Soviet period, the Moscow Patriarchate avoided deposing any priest, because that was considered too terrible a punishment. Now . . .
