When I've got a touch of the flu, only a full mug will do.

You know, that does seem to help. At least it makes you feel better.

aramis:

Sorry for the confusion. Ray's recipe--see his link--calls for 12 ounces fo whiskey. Mine is just a one-person portion for the flu. His seems to be some kind of holiday punch. I'd say if you drank his whole recipe that you wouldn't worry about the flu or anything else for awhile--you'd be out. grin

We're talking about similar products but with somewhat different applications.

Charles--If you've got the flu it sure doesn't hurt. I've always had a lot of help from drinking this stuff. And the excuse to have a good stiff drink isn't a bad side effect. wink

Ray,

Almost identical to my Irish grandfather's recipe to cure anything! You can tell how old that recipe is by the reference to Four Roses. Although it's still around, you hardly ever see it anymore and I haven't heard anyone order it in years.

Many years,

Neil

I still like the recipe passed to me by my father

when you have flu - go to bed BUT

First place a top hat at the end of the bed.

Then have a nice warm bath , pop into bed [ pre-warmed of course biggrin ]

Have a glass of nice hot toddy and repeat the drink till you see 2 top hats at the end of the bed .

Go to sleep

In the morning you will be cured biggrin

some interesting info on Bob's thought...

Huummm, who would of thought this...

Question:
Is Epsom Salt safe to ingest?

Answer:
Epsom Salt is an FDA-approved laxative. Consult the package for directions. It's always a good idea to consult your doctor before ingesting any over-the-counter medication, however.

Question:
I've heard that Epsom Salt is often used by parents whose children have been diagnosed with autism. Can you explain?

Answer:
Many doctors believe that autism is accompanied by bowel disorders that make it difficult to absorb nutrients and to purge the body of wastes. Sulfates, one of the major components of Epsom Salt, have been shown effective in improving nutrient absorption and toxin elimination. Magnesium, the other major component of Epsom Salt, has a demonstrated calming effect and plays a role in the activity of more than 325 enzymes. Because both magnesium and sulfates can be absorbed through the skin, many parents report that giving their child a warm bath with 1-2 cups of dissolved Epsom Salt just before bedtime helps extend the child's sleep cycle and ease digestive function.
