This is what the Church in Spain should be worrying about:
"Polls say nearly half of the country's Roman Catholics almost never go to Mass, and a third say they are simply not religious."

So... the Spanish Church instead of loosing its time talking about a Catholic Spain that does no longer exist and about a glorious time when Catholicism was the official religion of the State (unfortunately the transition from the dictatory of Franco to the democracy of Juan Carlos was and still is a traumatic experience for many of the members of the Catholic Hierarchy in Spain who did not want the Church to loose some of its privileges, during the dictatory of General Franco, for instance, public servants were asked to obtain a document signed by their parish priest saying that they did confess and receive Holy Communion during Easter period)should devote itself to the work a the re-evangelization of the country without looking back to the past. Do you know that the Catholic Hierarchy in Spain said no in 2000 to the appeal of the Holy Father John Paul II (of blessed memory) to ask pardon Spanish society for the involvement of Catholic clergy in the Civil War? For instance, in the city I come from the convent of the Jesuits fathers was a prison for those contrary to Franco. That was a Jesuit father who asked the troops of Franco to kill the Anglican priest of the city. Why not to ask pardon for such behaviours?

Spanish Majors refuse to marry gays [reforma.com]

I'm sorry I could not find an English translation to this article, but basically it states that certain majors will refuse to marry gay couples.

The Major of Valladolid, Mr. Javier Len de la Riva stated to "La Razn" a Spanish newspaper that "I am a Catholic first and then a politician, therefore I can not marry homosexuals"

The Archbishop of the Diocese of Castelln invited to a "civilian resistance" of the Majors that may be "obliged to sacrifice their conscience".

Seems we still have some real Catholics in our Mother Land and not only nominal Catholics as the media wants us to believe.

May God bless and protect the Spanish Church.

The situation in Spain is a good example of why Islam is overtaking Christianity in parts of Europe. Spain unfortunately is a post-Christian society where the Church appears weak, indecisive and uncertain of it's own teachings. Islam on the other hand appears to be strong, vibrant and uncompromising in it's view of sin.

I think a glorious new Spring awaits the church in Spain if it follows Pope Benedict XVI's directive and stands firm in the face of evil.

If Islam is taking over parts of Europe what will happen? Nothing. What could they do in Spain? Start another Reconquest or Inquisition?

How's about be faithful to Sts Ignatius Loyola and Teresa of Avila. Stop being so conceited (the Spanish that is) and start preaching the mystical gospel?
